 A war has broken out

A war has broken out

"Then Jesus spoke to him; Put your sword in its place! for whoever takes the sword shall perish by the sword." - MATTHEW Mt 26:52
br/> An open war has broken out in Europe. Sanctions - Borders that are closed - states of emergency and martial law. Millions of people worldwide who don't know what's going to happen next, who don't know what's happening to their families at home.
br/> For sailors, being separated from the family is part of everyday life. Not knowing how your loved ones are doing, the inability to act over thousands of kilometers away from the people they care about.
br/> There are more than 1.7 million seafarers on the move worldwide. About 200,000 sailors are Russian and about 75,000 sailors of Ukrainian nationality. They all don't know what will happen in the coming weeks. Will they still be able to withdraw money in the next port? When and from where can they fly home to their family and friends? Is going ashore still allowed? How do the sailors deal with their colleague on board, who comes from Russia or Ukraine? And above all: is my family doing well at home?
br/> All these questions, and probably hundreds more, occupy the seafarers. We are there for them.
br/> They can do nothing for war, but are affected on so many levels and also helpless.
br/> Even though we as Seemannsmission Hamburg-Harburg e.V. have our point of view on this conflict, and our employees should and must draw their own conclusions, we are united in the one moral point of view: War creates suffering on all sides and it also affects our sailors. Nor do we have a solution to this smouldering conflict.
